KUALA LUMPUR, 2 JULY 2026 – Institutional Investors Council Malaysia (IICM Berhad) successfully hosted the IICM Corporate Governance Conference 2026, themed “The Governance Mandate: Rebuilding Market Trust in an Era of Uncertainty”, at the Securities Commission Malaysia. The biennial conference brought together institutional investors, regulators, policymakers, company directors, corporate leaders and governance professionals to discuss the critical role of corporate governance in strengthening investor confidence and enhancing the resilience of Malaysia’s capital market.
The conference commenced with welcoming remarks by Datuk Wira Ismitz Matthew De Alwis, Vice Chairman of IICM Berhad, who set the tone for the day’s discussions by emphasising that effective corporate governance is fundamental to restoring trust amid an increasingly uncertain and volatile global environment. He highlighted the vital stewardship role of institutional investors in promoting transparency, accountability and long-term value creation, while encouraging boards and companies to uphold the highest standards of governance for the benefit of all stakeholders.
The conference was officially opened by Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia. A key highlight of the programme was the Keynote Address delivered by YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Finance Minister II, who shared the Government’s vision to strengthen Malaysia’s capital market competitiveness through sound corporate governance, effective stewardship, and sustainable long-term economic growth.
Anchored on the conference theme, the programme featured five thought-provoking panel discussions that explored a broad spectrum of governance issues, including rebuilding investor confidence, strengthening stewardship, enhancing board effectiveness, navigating the evolving ESG landscape, and addressing governance challenges in an increasingly uncertain economic environment. Together, these discussions reinforced the importance of governance as a key driver of sustainable value creation and resilient capital markets.
The conference featured an esteemed line-up of local and international speakers and panellists from leading organisations, including the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA), Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), GDInstitute, the Securities Commission Malaysia, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP), Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) and other leading organisations, providing diverse perspectives on the future of corporate governance and stewardship.
The conference reaffirmed IICM’s commitment to advancing high standards of corporate governance, promoting responsible stewardship and active ownership among institutional investors, while contributing to a stronger, more resilient and trusted Malaysian capital market. As Malaysia’s investor-led organisation representing institutional investors, IICM will continue to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration among market participants to strengthen governance practices and support the long-term development of the nation’s capital market.
The conference attracted approximately 350 participants from across Malaysia’s investment and corporate governance ecosystem, comprising institutional investors, listed companies, regulators, policymakers, academia and governance professionals.

About IICM Berhad
IICM Berhad is Malaysia’s investor-led organisation representing the collective interests of institutional investors.
